Scuba diving is good for my business!
September 28, 2009
I came across a research article by dentists from Turkey that discussed a case when a 40 year old man went scuba diving and 3 of his 3 year old fillings came out!
The term “barotrauma” is used to describe a physical injury caused by a rapid or extreme change in air pressure. Enclosed area within body are particularly affected by barotrauma. Fracture of the teeth or dislodgement of restorations has been linked to expansion of trapped air during ascents.
Teh incedent happened when this diver was performing a wall dive from 27 to 35 meters. These was a lot of decay under those fillings and the teeth “exploded”.
What is the moral? See your dentist regularly, not just when when your teeth explode!!!
